RV pads in Lubbock
An RV pad carries far more weight per tire than a car driveway, so it's usually poured thicker than the 4-inch city minimum for driveways, often 5 to 6 inches with rebar, on a compacted base. On the South Plains the bigger risk is the soil: low spots near playas can hold expansive Randall clay, which shrinks and swells with moisture and will crack a thin pad.
Before pouring, check your HOA rules and side-yard setbacks. Many newer subdivisions limit where an RV can be parked. If the pad needs a new approach or curb cut, that part sits in the public right-of-way and needs a city permit.
What a good pad includes
- Length and width for the rig plus room to open slides and doors
- A compacted base, with extra prep in clay soils
- Rebar or wire mesh, with thickness set by the heaviest axle
- A gentle slope so water drains off instead of pooling under tires
- Control joints placed so cracks fall where you want them
What affects the price
- Square footage and thickness
- Dirt work and base
- Access for the concrete truck or pump
- A new approach or curb cut, if you need one
